This 8 days Safari will take you to both Uganda and Rwanda for Gorilla trekking. It’s an incredible experience having the first glimpse at these shy black gorillas amidst the dense foliage. Other activities involved on this tour are, community tour in Rwanda, golden monkey tracking, among others.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative from Select Safaris Africa who will actually brief you about this exciting Safari in Rwanda and Uganda. You will then be transferred to your place of accommodation for your dinner and the Overnight. Either Step Town Motel or Milles Collins or Golf Hills Residence or Hotel Chezlando or even Kigali Serena (BB)
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park (6-7hrs)
Early morning, have Breakfast at about 7:00am in your Hotel and thereafter transfer to the stunning Nyungwe forest National Park. On the way to this Park, you will actually visit some tourist sites including the palace of the traditional Kings of Rwanda found in Nyanza and as well the Cultural Museum found in Butare. Afterwards continue with the drive past verdant tea fields that dot the hillsides of this road plus tinny wooden houses en route to Nyungwe. Dine and slumber at Nyungwe Hotel, Gisakura Guest House, or Nyungwe Forest Lodge (FB)
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking within Nyungwe Forest National Park
Following breakfast; set out very early morning to enjoy Chimpanzee tracking within the verdant forest as you look for these primates which are actually the cousins to humans. A Forest Ranger will guide you on this great expedition and will show you various forest trails. The tracking takes approximately 3 to 5 hours. Head back to the lodge for your lunch and later on in the afternoon; enjoy a guided exciting nature walk within this forest. This walk will offer birds an opportunity to see a diversity of bird species within this forest. Look out for some species such as the black & white casqued hornbill as well as the Rwenzori Turacco. Dine and slumber at Gisakura Guest House or Nyungwe Hotel or Nyungwe Forest Lodge (FB)
Day 4: Drive to Gisenyi
Have breakfast, and thereafter transfer to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu which is the country’s biggest fresh water in western parts of Rwanda. Upon arrival, you will have refreshments and lunch after which you will undertake a 2-4 hours launch cruise along the Lake. The cruise will provide you with a spectacular view of the Kibuye and Gisenyi towns and also the Nyiragongo Volcano in Congo which erupted recently in 2002. Return for dinner and overnight stay at Kivu Sun Hotel /Kivu Serena Hotel (FB)
Day 5: Head to Virunga Volcanoes National Park
Right after your breakfast, you then drive to Parc Nationale des Volcanoes (PNV), where we shall arrive just in time to start golden monkey tracking. As we are out tracking the Golden Monkeys, among the other primate species to look out for are: Monkeys, in addition to a great array of bird species. Head back to the lodge for a delicious lunch and rest as wait as well as prepare for your following day’s memorable activity – Gorilla tracking.
Day 6: Go Gorilla Trekking within and head to Uganda
After early breakfast, report at the head- offices of the Park by 8:00am, where you will be distributed into gorilla trekking groups and also have a briefing about this Mountain Gorilla Trekking activity. Following this you will then head out in the verdant forest to look for these Mountain Gorillas which unfortunately are among the endangered species in the world. On the Africa planet, these gorillas can only be found in Rwanda’s PNV and Uganda’s Bwindi. You will carry along bottled water since this trekking at times can be rather challenging especially in the dry season when these Gorillas move very long distances. Dissimilar to Uganda, in Rwanda Gorilla tracking may take anything between 2 to 7 hours basing on the movements of the Gorilla. You will be allowed to spend utmost one hour with the Gorillas as you take some pictures (although cameras with flashes are not allowed), Video coverage as well as observe this tranquil animals feed, look after their young, play and go about their day to day activities. At the finish of the one hour, we will head back to the lodge to freshen up and have lunch. We shall then cross into Southwestern Uganda through Kisoro and there we shall have our dinner and spend the overnight at Travelers Rest Hotel, or Gorilla Safari Lodge, or 3 way Gorilla Resort (FB)
Day 7: Another day Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi -Uganda
After breakfast, we will head to the verdant thickets of Bwindi forest to enjoy another experience of gorilla trekking in Uganda. The Bwindi forest is home to more than half of the total mountain gorilla population in the world. Among the gorilla groups available for tracking in the Bwindi are: Nshongi, Nkuringo, Oruzogo plus Kahungye, among many others basing on the group you will be allocated on your Mountain Gorilla trekking Permit. The duration for gorilla tracking in Uganda could differ from that back in Rwanda mainly because the Bwindi forest is large so the Gorillas can actually trek longer distances. After the Gorilla tracking, you then will head back to the lodge to freshen up, relax and dinner and the overnight at Travelers Rest Hotel, or Gorilla Safari Lodge, or 3 way Gorilla Resort (FB)
Day 8: Head back to Kigali for your Departure
On having a hefty breakfast, we shall transfer back to Rwanda in Kigali city and basing on the time of your flight; you will have a brief city tour in Kigali or directly transfer to the airport.
